Keith Vaughan, FPSA, GMPSA : I am a retired chemistry professor in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I was born in the UK, and I grew up in Liverpool (home of the Beatles and scouse). I went to university in Manchester and Dundee, Scotland. I came to Canada in 1967, spent two years in Vancouver, B.C., before moving to Halifax in 1969 to take up a faculty position at Saint Mary's University. This is my 44th (and last) year of teaching chemistry full-time; I am also active in research in organic and medicinal chemistry. I got serious about photography when I joined the PGNS in 1973; then I got really serious in 1985 when I joined PSA and began to exhibit in internationals. Don Funderburg : I started taking photos when I was in the 8th grade. But I was a pretty poor boy and could not afford taking pictures, so my pictures were pretty much on again and off again. When I got married in 1968 I and my wife started taking more pictures. I took a few classes but still was pretty much a poor boy. When digital came along I got my first Fuji 3800. That was when photography really turned around for me. I took a correspondence course and passed but the course was so poor I really didn't get what I wanted out of it. I finally found NAPP and things in Photoshop really started to click. I worked for a major airline and traveled around the world in search of photos but usually I had a lot of family with me, so that distracted me a lot. I really hated slowing everyone down, so most of the photos were snapshots instead of great photos. Kids are gone, wife is really starting to become a great photographer in her own rights. We have joined a camera club and that has really gotten me going even further in photography. What really got us excited was entering photos in county and state fairs, especially when we won ribbons on every photo entered the first three years. Now I'm completed hooked. I'm still learning and watching everyone else and learn from that. Software is changing so fast it is very difficult to even stay close to the new stuff. Digital and I have improved to much in just the 10 years I have been in it. Amazing.

Bob Protus : I started out in film photography back in the 80's. But I became disinterested in it after a few years. I worked as a photographer volunteer for OKC Zoo (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) and had a great time. Now that I'm retired, I got my interest back for photography. I bought a Canon T3i with a kit lens 18-55mm. I then bought a Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM lens and a Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS lens. My favorite is the Sigma. Kraig Haplea : Kraig Haplea was born and raised in the Ohio area. His background is in television news, however he has also been involved in documentary, biography, training, fund raising and commercial productions. His career spans over two decades in producing quality visual elements. After graduating Miami University with a B.S. in Mass Communications, Kraig moved from Oxford to Idaho Falls, to work at KIFI, then back to Dayton to work for WKEF.

His first substantial career break came in Charleston, South Carolina at the CBS affiliate...WCSC. He was named Chief Photographer after only 1 year on the job. Six years later he was lured back to Ohio with a job offer at WKRC in Cincinnati. Moving ahead another 5 years, he co-founded the successful production company I & Eye Productions. Jim Godell : I have been in the photography business since 1987 when I started photographing weddings for another photographer. In 1988 I attended my first formal photography class at the Mid America Institute of Professional Photographers (MAIPP) taught by Leonard Levy from the Boston area. Learning photography from a professional excited me and I went back to MAIPP for the next seven years. My experience spans over a number of different types of photography from pre-school to executives, including sports (all kinds), landscapes, and events. I won't mention the type of digital camera(s) I use or the computer since the vision comes from the head, heart and hands. I do post production work on almost all images, using NIK, PhotoShop CS5 and Elements10 along with Lightroom3. I retired from teaching at Northern Michigan University 15 years ago after teaching for 31 years as a business professor. Prior to the university term, I was high school business teacher for 5 years. Cynthia Crawford : My photography has evolved from early captures for reference material, to my present interest in something I call "photo-painting." I am a watercolorist, so it came naturally to start working with my pictures in a similar manner, though not all of them are painted or composites. In the last 2-3 years I've been selling and showing my photos and photo-paintings locally and online. My interest is mainly in wildlife and the beautiful natural world where I live, in Vermont. I've also published and sold cards, calendars and a few books. Further works might incorporate all my artistic interests, as I am also a musician and ardent bird-watcher. John Roach : I was a Director of Facilities at a large local hospital for many years proceeded by a career in real estate property management after being a US Navy 10 year veteran. Prior to retiring at 66 years of age 10 months ago, I decided I would travel, do photography, and write during retirement. To that end, my goal is to start a website and blog soon to share what I accomplish. During the past few months, I have taken online photography and writing courses in preparation for achieving that goal. I photograph as much as I can in support of the courses and for the shear joy of it. My primary interests are wildlife, landscape, architecture, cityscape, and travel photography. I recently upgraded from my Microsoft HP XP Laptop (still use) to Apple iMac and use Photoshop Elements 9, CS5, Lightroom 3 for post processing of my photography. I have even purchased inexpensive studio lights to learn portrait photography. Earl Mueller : I have spent most of my life travelling the world on business. I have been in 87 countries. I have a Masters degree in Engineering. I owned three companies, one was a commercial photography business, which was used as a communications tool with people around the world. Christine Penn : Christine Penn - Like many others, I've always had an interest in photography, along with a love of travel – they make great companions. In my twenties I did a trip to Europe with a group of young people and an old Instamatic, recording everything that crossed my path. Then in my forties I went on an African Safari with a Canon, my 1st 'decent' camera, and assumed that I would achieve better results. Not so !I joined my local camera club in Tauranga, New Zealand in 1996 - and my obsession started. It began in the darkroom, but eventually moved on to the computer. I like most subjects, but really enjoy working to a theme or on a project. I am happiest out there in the field, shooting images as they appear in the right light.

Sue Milligan : Looking back, I wish I had taken that photo class while I was at the Maryland Institute of Art in the mid 60's. Instead of years of traveling, taking what amounted to "record shots", I might be able to look back at my photos with pride. But priorities change, I have more time, and I'm seeing things differently now...making photos instead of just taking them. I've slowed down too and gotten a bit shakier, so now I am forced to use my tripod whether I like it or not. I am a Canon Rebel user (I'm on my third) and it's just perfect for me. My husband and I have enjoyed this hobby together for years...starting out in the St Louis Camera Club, and for the last 15 years taking an active roll in the Cookeville Camera Club in Tennessee, and recently PSA. I am a firm believer in Camera Clubs. They are a wonderful way to learn about photography and to share your love of the craft with like minded people. Let me just thank PSA for giving its members the opportunity of sharing their work with this New Member Gallery. Emilio Blanco : I started with a Brownie & later got an SRT-101, which still works. Living in Europe, prints/slides were not cheap for me and therefore I had to be picky with my shots. Being an on-and-off photographer for over five decades, I got into digital in 2000. Six years ago, though, I undertook the hobby with much more fervor. Dave Edwards : Photography has been a lifetime learning experience for Dave. His interest in photography began at the age of 9 with a family vacation to Niagara Falls. The big landscape is his subject of choice although his business (Dave Edwards Photography LLC) focuses primary on weddings and senior portraits. Dave is a career Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) employee retiring in 2008. Dave was an evidence photography instructor with WDNR for 15 years and developed standard operating procedures on the use of digital images as legal evidence. Bob Reinhardt : The photographs displayed here represent the past six years of exploring “sacred grounds” in the cemeteries of Scotland, notably the area in and around Edinburgh. These sites are extremely rich in visual treasure. Each site possesses a unique slice of the history, religion, art and architecture of the time period in which it was created. Today, several of the sites are in a shameful state of disrepair with nature rapidly reclaiming the landscape. Trees and shrubs, once carefully manicured, now tower over and envelop the beautifully carved tombstones. Celtic crosses and majestic marble angels are hostage to vines and weeds that strangle and conceal them from the view of the passerby.
The gravestones seem almost indifferent to the elements that continue to wear at their surfaces and challenge their structural integrity. It is the collision and contrast of that ongoing confrontation that draws me into these sites year after year. I have dedicated myself to preserving those memories and voices from the past to be handed on for others to share into the future.

Ian Silvester : Ian Silvester is a keen amateur photographer, particularly of steam trains and African wildlife. He took up photography as a serious hobby in 1973 when he bought his first Nikon SLR camera. Since then, he has used Nikon equipment almost exclusively, buying a digital camera in 2005. His colour photography is now solely digital, while for black and white images he uses a second-hand Rolleiflex camera.
Capturing the last workings of live steam trains has taken Ian all around the world, to countries and regions little visited by mainstream tourists.
Now that steam has virtually ended as regular main line motive power, enthusiasts recreate the experience by organising steam-hauled private charter trains. Regular steam still exists in China where he has spent 8 weeks in the last year.

This is my first year as a member of the Boynton Beach Camera Club, and of course, my first year as a member of PSA. I try not to miss a meeting of the BBCC and have learned A LOT since joining. I am a member of a PSA Study Group and find that I am spending MUCH time working with my photos. I am not new to Photoshop Elements, but am to CS4. Louis Agius : Though I had a camera since a very young age, I only took photography seriously in 1996. My photography took off when I joined Malta Photographic Society and learned a lot from the local experienced photographers. Up to 2005 I spent most of my spare time in my own darkroom but now I have gone all digital. My favorite subjects are shooting action and people photography, but I also keep an open mind to other aspects of photography.
I have been a committee member of the Malta Photographic Society since the year 2000 and apart from other positions on the committee I was Vice President for four years. Anna and Lou Leopold : Anna and Lou have been members of PSA since 1962, and were for many years co-secretaries of the Anglo-American Slide Study Circuit. They have written articles for the PSA Journal. Both taught for many years at Penn State-Altoona, and in retirement wrote and photographed for America's Industrial Heritage
Project of the U S Dept of Interior. They wrote and pictured 41 articles for Westsylvania magazine, a regional heritage/lifestyle publication, and took early to digital imaging. He was awarded FPSA in 1989 becoming the first ever Pakistan photographer to receive this distinction. Kazi was awarded the “Master-FIAP” distinction in 2000 and Fellowship of the Royal Society (FRPS) in 2003. Susan Cowles : I became Interested in photography when I joined my husband at the 2006 PSA Conference in Baltimore. I was able to pose and photograph my first portrait. I decided right then - photography is for me.
I joined PSA in Jan 31, 2007. I serve as Secretary of the Southern California Council of Camera Clubs (S4C). I will Chair the Photojournalism Division for 2008-09. Since 2007 I have been the Director of the PSA CPID International Creative Club Competition (ICCC). I also am a mentor on the PSA New Member web site for "Computer Portrait Enhancement." I enjoy entering Exhibitions and have been fortunate to receive a few PSA Gold medals.

Ayman Lotfy was born in Cairo, Egypt on the 30th of August 1968, After his graduation from the faculty of Arts in 1991, he had wasted no time and led his own road into artistic career.

Ayman started his career route as a fashion designer. And with his mere devotion and passion to arts and designs, he successfully stepped forward to become a professional Art Director in 1996.

In 1998, Ayman Lotfy launched his journey to the world of photography with the aim of enhancing his work as a designer. Since then, Ayman did not leave the camera. His camera was the door to the new world of Modern Art Photography.

Ayman Lotfy has a strong interest in people, human emotions and expressions. With full realization of how hard a job it could be to capture a real photo, a photo that reveals a real expression, a one that can be believed by himself as an artist and can be easily delivered to his audience, Ayman’s creativity and persistence wouldn’t surrender before of the challenge.
